Identification of erosion-prone areas of soil cover in the Zaporizhzhia region

Abstract

EN: The work carried out a comprehensive study of the erosion hazard of soil cover within the Zaporizhzhia region using modern tools for remote sensing of the Earth, geoinformation analysis, and methods of landscape and ecological assessment. The relevance of the study is determined by the high intensity of degradation processes in the region, which belongs to the steppe and dry-steppe natural zones of Ukraine and is characterized by an arid climate, weak natural forest cover, a high level of land plowing, and significant man-made load. Under such conditions, the soils of the region are particularly vulnerable to water and wind erosion, which leads to the loss of topsoil, reduced productivity, and degradation of natural ecosystems. The microclimatic features of the Zaporizhzhia region significantly affect the intensification of erosion processes. Uneven distribution of precipitation, frequent droughts, elevated air temperature, and low relative humidity contribute to drying of the upper soil layer, reducing its structure and stability, which increases both water and wind erosion. /// UA: Оцінка ерозійно небезпечних ділянок ґрунтового покриву є надзвичайно актуальним завданням з огляду на кілька ключових факторів, що мають значний вплив на екологічну та економічну стабільність Запорізької області. Ерозія ґрунтів – це один із найгостріших проявів деградації земель, що призводить до втрати родючого шару, погіршення структури ґрунту та зниження його здатності утримувати вологу. Для Запорізької області, де сільське господарство є однією з провідних галузей економіки, ці процеси становлять пряму загрозу для врожайності, продовольчої безпеки та сталого розвитку. Зменшення родючості ґрунтів веде до зниження прибутків фермерських господарств та збільшення витрат на добрива і меліорацію. Сучасні кліматичні умови, що характеризуються частими посухами, зливами та сильними вітрами, значно посилюють процеси вітрової та водної ерозії. Запорізька область, розташована у степовій зоні, особливо вразлива до цих явищ. Тому своєчасне виявлення та моніторинг ерозійно небезпечних ділянок є критично важливим для розробки ефективних заходів із захисту ґрунтів та адаптації до змін клімату.
